About the Provider
With over 10 years of experience in acute care — including more than four years dedicated specifically to psychiatric care — I have devoted my career to supporting individuals through some of life’s most difficult and vulnerable moments. My professional background includes experience in psychiatric leadership and management roles, where I developed a strong foundation in patient advocacy, compassionate care, and individualized treatment planning.
I earned my Master’s degree in Psychiatric Mental Health in 2025 from Hawaii Pacific University, further strengthening my commitment to providing comprehensive and evidence-based mental health care.
Psychology and mental health have always been a passion of mine. What drew me to nursing — and specifically psychiatric nursing — is the ability to combine both holistic approaches and western medicine into patient-centered care. I believe treatment should never be one-size-fits-all. Every individual deserves a treatment plan that is thoughtful, collaborative, and mindful of their personal experiences, goals, and wishes.
My approach to care is deeply rooted in empathy and understanding. Having personally experienced trauma and mental health struggles, I understand how overwhelming and isolating these challenges can feel. That lived experience allows me to connect with patients in a compassionate and authentic way, while offering support without judgment.
My goal is to help individuals navigate their challenges, build resilience, and improve their overall quality of life. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where patients feel heard, empowered, and genuinely cared for throughout their healing journey.
Hello, I’m Kat Calkins, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC.
My Approach
We understand that seeking mental health care can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive, and judgment-free environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their treatment journey. Compassion, empathy, and genuine connection are at the center of every interaction.
We value the importance of building strong therapeutic relationships founded on trust, open communication, and nonjudgmental support. Patients are active participants in their care, and we work collaboratively to develop treatment plans that align with their goals, values, and lifestyle. We understand that vulnerability takes courage. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive space where they feel heard, understood, and empowered.
